Las Vegas, Nevada – August 2007

Found myself condo sitting in Las Vegas for a month in August 2007. Yes, I know, not the time of year for much active train chasing, but I did a little. Here we see an Eastbound UP freight whip around the reverse curves at Apex. This is where the LA&SL climbs out of the Las Vegas basin to do some plateau running up to the mouth of Meadow Creek Wash.

Once south of this location near Holbrook, the line takes off into an area where several east-west roads are mysteriously closed due to some kind of quarrantine.
